The cause of canker sores is the fungus Candida albicans. This fungus usually does in the mouth in small amounts, but will lead to thrush if growth becomes uncontrolled. Some trigger factors are:

    
Oral hygiene is not maintained properly.
    
The immune system is decreased, for example, in people with HIV or those who are undergoing chemotherapy.
    
The use of antibiotics.
    
Corticosteroid use, for example in patients with asthma, arthritis, and cancer.

Thrush treatment
The main goal in the treatment of canker sores is to inhibit the development of fungi. This disease usually can be treated with medication anti-fungal used for 1-2 weeks. Some types of anti-fungal drugs are usually recommended is miconazole, nystatin, fluconazole, clotrimazole, and econazole. You can also use an anti-fungal medication in the form of a gel, cream, mouthwash, and tablets.
All drugs definitely have side effects, including anti-fungal drugs. Some side effects are diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, indigestion, and headaches.
As for patients with mouth sores caused by the use of antibiotics or corticosteroids, your doctor may suggest changes in the dose or method of drug use.
